PADAYON
A Training Facility for National Athletes in Angeles, Pampanga
ABSTRACT
For many decades, numerous Filipino athletes have been going abroad to train for the upcoming Olympics and other sports events to represent our country. There are several reasons why they train abroad. One reason is that we lack sports training facilities. Two, they do not have enough budget for maintenance, and lastly, some sports equipment are already decades old. The main objective of this research was to design a facility that would provide proper training to our athletes in physical, mental and spiritual aspects without needing to go abroad. This facility would handle and manage all sports registered under the Philippine Sports Commission, give a clarification on the contrast between sports complex and training facility and ensure everyone that the training apparatus and structure will unleash the fullest potential of the athletes. Surveys and interviews were answered by national athletes, case studies were made on existing training facilities, site selection were done based on the results of the surveys and interviews, a site visit was conducted to be able to get the information needed for the site analysis, the design development boards that composed of the conceptual and functional translations gives a brief idea about the whole project, the feasibility of the study was needed to prove that the project will be feasible, and the design development showed the transformation of the spatial translations into a sustainable and innovative structure for the athletes.. The proposed sports training facility is about 18.1 hectares of agricultural land, which consist of training facilities, a gym, an administration and clinic, a cafe and cafeteria, an Olympic diving pool, a simulation building, a chapel, a track and field and archery, and athletes’ and coaches’ village for them to use for the months of hard training.
